MANGGAD KANG ANTIQUE
(The Treasures of Antique)
THE ANTIQUE HERITAGE TOUR
Katahum Tours is pleased to offer you Manggad Kang Antique (The Treasures of Antique), the first of its kind heritage tour of this province. Highly experiential, Manggad Kang Antique goes beyond the standard field trip format to promote a rich, interactive experience for our visitors.
Since Spanish times, Antique was considered a backwater province. But with the recent improvements in infrastructure and economic activity, Antique is slowly coming out of the doldrums. The sleepy town of Tibiao, in particular, is no longer unfamiliar as Tibiao Bakery and Tibiao Fish Spa have brought this town to the attention of many.
With the Manggad Kang Antique heritage tourism program, a number of Antique’s heritage-rich towns will be showcased. This two-day tour starts at Anini-y with its curative Hot Springs and serene colonial church. In Tobias Fornier (formerly Dao), local women teach buri handicraft making. The tour also visits Hamtic, for the monument of Gen. Leandro Fullon and the Malandog river, of the Barter of Panay legend. In Patnongon guests see the ruins of what could have been the largest church in Antique and in Bugasong, the visitors observe how traditional patadyong and hablon weaving are done.
The evening’s affair features “Istorya-Kanta Kinaray-a,” a lecture-concert or informance of OKM (Original Kinaray-a Music) with no less than Mr. Dante Beriong and Mr. Sammy Rubido, the pillars of OKM.
The next day’s activities include an experience of Lambaklad fishing at Malabor, Tibiao followed by pottery and brick making at the mountain barangay of Bandoja. Merienda is more meaningful at the very first store of Tibiao Bakery and a fish spa indulgence more relaxing at the very first site of Tibiao Fish Spa. The tour culminates sweetly with bandi, butong-butong and suman making at the town of Laua-an — Antique’s Muscovado capital.
